The title of the talk really caught my attention: Decluttering Our Lives and Preparing for a Funeral Living Wish List. I was unsure what to expect, and it sounded serious. Did I really want to do this after a busy day at work?  I was prepared to take lots of notes and to concentrate, thinking about how to change my life and preparing for the inevitable. However, Sonal made it practical, fun and interactive.

She made us laugh whilst thinking about the number of shoes and sarees we all possess. Do we really need them all? Do we want our loved ones to be fighting or stressing over the things we have left behind? The 12, 12,12 rule really got me thinking…. what I can throw away? When will I return all those borrowed items, and how about doing sewa through recycling, tackling one room at a time. She really resonated with us all.

We often push to the back of our minds the difficult task of decluttering and also forget about how much we carry with us in the hope that one day we will sort it out, or wanting others to sort it out when we are no longer here.  I came away feeling inspired rather than heavy. I am glad I went. My only regret was that I wished my dad would have come along as these conversations are not easy.
